We are located in the Flatiron District of NY and we are now doing TeleHealth video sessions. PMA psychotherapists, associate clinicians, and advanced clinical interns provide counseling services including Individual, Couples, Family and Group Therapy, in addition to Workshops and Seminars addressing a variety of topics.

Our collective of therapists are dedicated to assisting you in gaining awareness, making choices, and activating those choices to help you overcome your problems and challenges. Some challenges that we focus on can include anxiety, depression, body image, relationships issues, LGBTQ issues, family issues, substance abuse, socio-cultural issues, and trauma.

Our intention is to listen to you carefully and co-create an approach to support you in achieving your life’s goals. Our approach is comprehensive in nature, and includes both traditional Psychodynamic (talk therapy), as well as relational and behavioral therapies focusing on the "here and now" helping you live more wholeheartedly and authentically.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked for years in NYC as a Case Manager in foster care, family homeless shelters, the LGBTQ+ community, and with developmentally disabled individuals. As a Harlem Native, bringing light and awareness to social issues and community achievements are important to me.

I am currently studying at the Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy Institute to become certified in Gestalt Therapy for Post Graduate training. My therapeutic style also draws from Psychodynamic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Strengths Based Therapy.

My therapeutic space is approached with curiosity, warmth, and genuine compassion. Working collaboratively with my clients, we explore the client’s experience in relation to their environment, and asking, “What’s impacting the client’s experience?” I support my clients in discovering their potential, and strengths to help them navigate their environments to become their authentic selves.

  • Lauren Capone

    LMHC, Clinical Supervisor

Accepting new clients on limited basis

    Master’s: New York University

I am trained in marriage, couple, and family counseling, trauma therapy, and have extensive training as a yoga and meditation teacher.

My clients have described me as compassionate, caring, creative, and empathetic. You can expect our sessions to center around curiosity—both mine and yours. This will be cultivated through my asking questions, promoting your self-awareness through mindfulness, and our shared experience being open to examination.

My therapeutic style is non-judgmental, client-centered, and collaborative. Psychoeducation about the nervous system will be a part of our sessions to gain access to both the body and mind in the processing of trauma and regulation in your day-to-day life.

I strive for flexibility and expansion in my practice which allows for a more dynamic and creative process with my clients. All these principles lay on a bedrock of genuine commitment to creating an environment for you to become the most authentic expression of yourself.

I desire to have a strong relational connection with each of the individuals I work with, integrating their felt experience and expressed emotion into every session. My hope is to create a space in which my clients feel accepted, heard, validated, and motivated as they work through the challenges that life has to offer. My therapeutic style is respectful, open, warm and friendly, with the occasional usage of playful metaphors and humor. I believe in having open dialogue with those who are in my care and maintaining accountability for us both.

I am currently studying at the Gestalt Associates for Psychotherapy Institute to ascertain my certification in Gestalt Therapy for Post Graduate training, however I believe in using an integrative approach with other modalities. I have a Masters of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling from SUNY Old Westbury. Throughout my scope of practicing, I have had experiences working and interacting with people from various walks of life, including: individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses, individuals with disabilities, adults, adolescents, and children. Many of the people I work with experience communication difficulties, challenges with setting boundaries, expressing their emotions, and relationship/familial issues. I look forward to our collaborative work together.

Passionate about mental health, I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness at NYU. My educational background includes a B.A with dual majors in Neuroscience and Religion (with a focus on Tibetan Buddhist Studies) from Columbia University. Additionally, I am currently enrolled in the Contemplative Psychotherapy Program at Nalanda Institute, where I am grounding my psychotherapy practice in Buddhist and mindfulness psychology.

My therapeutic approach is inclusive, collaborative, warm, and non-judgmental. Furthermore, it is also informed by Jungian and psychodynamic theory, narrative therapy, spirituality, and somatic means of healing. Some challenges we may focus on can include depression, anxiety, trauma, LGBTQ+ issues, and relationship challenges. Together, we can work on cultivating healthy and sustainable practices to foster greater clarity, insight, joy, and restoration. In the context of talk therapy, we deepen the exploration of recognizing and honoring your unique path.

When I’m not working at PMA, I love reading, traveling, sharing tea, immersing myself in nature, playing music, practicing the Tarot, and cooking with my family and friends.

    Master’s: Northwestern University

I have been driven by a passion to destigmatize mental health, beginning with spearheading an on-campus campaign while attending Cornell University and most recently, I worked to shift the culture of discussing mental health and well-being in the workplace in corporate settings, which still carries a significant stigma. I previously worked as a crisis counselor, as well as aided the development of a mental health text line in India.

I strive to help patients understand themselves at their core, including why they see themselves and others in a certain way, what their blind spots are, and how they perceive love and how this affects the relationships in their lives. As a Latina first-generation woman, I will always aim to approach therapy with an intersectional and culturally competent lens.

Having lived in India for over a year, and through my personal interests, I embed Eastern and Western practices in my therapeutic approach, including Existential Therapy, Energy Healing, and mindfulness. In my free time, I love to travel the world, learn new languages, work out and hang out with my pup, Yogi.

I believe that we all desire to be fully seen, known, and loved. The simple practice of noticing and embracing all parts of ourselves is a powerful act of self-love that can unlock peace and wellness. Therefore, I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is warm, validating, and encouraging.

Our lives are dictated and colored by our minds, which means we have the power to gain ownership over our own narratives. I aim to empower clients to do so, using an integrative approach that includes mindfulness, ACT, person-centered, and psychodynamic techniques, tailored to meet each individual where they are and what works best for them.

I am currently a graduate student pursuing a Master of Arts in Counseling at Northwestern University. Prior to this, I graduated from Boston College with a major in mathematics and worked as a data science consultant in New York City. Throughout my journey, I have always been deeply fascinated by mental health, drawing inspiration from books like The Body Keeps the Score and podcasts by Jay Shetty and Jillian Turecki. In my free time, I am constantly listening, dancing, and singing to music (my favorite is R&B) and hunting for the best noodles as an avid foodie.

Being an individual who is physically disabled, I love working with other individuals who may have been misunderstood in their life—who may not have found somebody who understands what they are going through. Whether that be because their mental health struggles are stigmatized, their disabilities and/or illnesses are invisible, their identities are dismissed, or anything in between.. my clients come from all walks of life. I’m here for it all! Because I’m here for you.

Pulling from various approaches such as Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Psychodynamic, and more, I strive to create an environment that promotes not just growth but also acceptance, even in ways you least expect it.

My biggest goal as an individual’s therapist is to give you the space to be that version of yourself that nobody else might see—even if that means working together to build that completely from scratch! It may take some time, it may be a bit intimidating, but this is a process that I hope can benefit my clients for a lifetime. Even long after we’ve parted ways.

I am a New York City therapist born, raised, and based in Brooklyn that would like to cultivate a warm, welcoming, and open environment for clients to grow. It is important to me that I create an environment where clients feel comfortable sharing themselves with me to the fullest extent. I hope to develop a space where clients feel free to express themselves without any judgment.

In terms of modalities I am interested in using to inform my practice, I would like to take an intersectional approach, combining techniques such as CBT, strength-based, therapy, and gestalt techniques. I look forward to bringing my full self into every session authentically.

I see myself working with clients of all ages and backgrounds struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and more. I have a bachelor's degree in general psychology from The George Washington University, and I am currently working on my master’s degree in mental health and wellness counseling at New York University. I love doing ballet, playing dress up, and finding any excuse possible to spend time outdoors!

I strive to learn about the diverse experiences of individuals and the unique mental health needs that accompany them, especially those who feel limited by their neurodivergence. Lived experiences have helped me develop an informed approach when navigating depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, and executive dysfunction. As a queer person I understand the nuance of gender and sexuality, and am also affirming of issues related to kink, polyamory, and sex work. In addition to adults, I also want to work with children and adolescents.

I aim to create an accepting, nonjudgemental, and trauma-informed space for folks to process their feelings, identify and prioritize their goals, and tell their stories. I want to help people feel safe when being vulnerable, and I bring an inquisitive approach to supporting clients in exploring their personal identity and helping them feel authentically empowered and fulfilled.

Outside of sessions, I am often creating (whether this be fine art, crafts, or DIY projects around the home), playing video games, tending to my collection of indoor plants, cooking, and occasionally fostering kittens or on a streetcat rescue mission.

I am particularly interested in working with adults seeking work-life balance, burnout prevention, adjustment to past and present life changes (e.g., chronic illness, grief), and navigating the complexities of relationships. I believe that effective counseling is flexible counseling, which can be achieved through the integration of methods and techniques from different theoretical approaches (e.g., person-centered therapy, CBT, psychodynamic theories, Gestalt therapy), catered specifically to the individual client’s unique needs. My appreciation for flexibility comes from my diverse academic, professional, and cultural backgrounds, which combined have inspired me to redirect my focus on research in clinical psychology to becoming a mental health counselor.

In 2004, I graduated from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University with a BFA in Dramatic Writing. In 2022, I received a master’s degree in psychology from New York University’s Graduate School of Arts & Science. During this time, I was a research assistant at Harvard University’s Department of Psychology, later becoming a teaching assistant at Harvard Extension School. Currently, I am pursuing a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at New York University. I have also enjoyed a twenty-year career in New York City real estate. While not studying or working, I am probably watching Seinfeld for the two thousandth time, reading autobiographies, going to a museum, or talking myself out of getting a third graduate degree.

My therapeutic style is warm, inclusive, and non-judgmental, fostering collaboration with clients of all ages—from children and adolescents to adults and seniors. I adapt my approach to each individual’s developmental stage and specific needs, drawing from psychodynamic and gestalt theory, mindfulness practices, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). By creating a personalized plan, we can work together to navigate challenges such as depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, and relationship difficulties. My goal is to offer a safe, supportive environment where you can explore your experiences, develop healthy coping strategies, and achieve greater clarity, insight, and personal growth. I am dedicated to not only helping you overcome current challenges but also empowering you to flourish in your various roles to lead a more fulfilling life.

Currently, I am pursuing a Master's degree in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness at NYU. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Boston College, where I studied neuroscience and researched the neurological underpinnings of mental health disorders. This foundational passion for understanding the brain-behavior connection has been instrumental in shaping my approach as a mental health professional.
